How to Apply
Step 1
Submit Your University Application
Ohio State processes freshman applications for the Columbus campus through the Common Application.
If you are looking to transfer from another college instead, you will use the dedicated Ohio State Transfer Application.
Step 2
Track Your Admission Deadlines
For Autumn admission, make sure to submit all components by these deadlines:
- November 1 (Early Action): Required for maximum university merit scholarship consideration, Honors and Scholars, and the Morrill Scholarship Program.
- January 15 (Regular Decision): The final deadline to submit your complete application package for the Columbus campus.
Step 3
Provide Required Materials
A completed application file must include the following components:
- The Common Application or university transfer application.
- $60 application fee or an approved fee waiver.
- Official high school transcripts or previous college transcripts.
- Official ACT or SAT scores: Note that Ohio State requires standardized test score submissions for Columbus campus first-year applicants.
Step 4
Finalize Your Sociology Major Post-Adoption
Once you are officially a Buckeye, you will take the final step to secure your standing within the major:
- Take Sociology 1101: You must complete Introduction to Sociology with a grade of C or better as a prerequisite to finalize your major declaration.
- Meet with an Advisor: Contact an undergraduate academic advisor within the Department of Sociology to plan out the rest of your core requirements, which will include social stratification, research methods, theory, and statistics.
