Associate Professor of Teaching Kim Lopez won a Champion of Hope Award for given by Lifeline of Ohio at their annual gala on Saturday, October 6. Lifeline of Ohio is one of four one of four organizations in the state of Ohio designated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to facilitate organ and tissue donation. Kim was awarded their FIRST ever School/Educator Champion Award in recognition of her efforts over many years to educate students at Ohio State University about organ donation. Kim was one of six individuals nominated for this award. Congratulations Kim!
Second year graduate student, Jack Wippell has been awarded the American Society of Criminology (ASC) Division of Terrorism and Bias Crime 2024 Student Paper Award for his second year paper. He will be awarded a plaque an $500 at the ASC annual meeting in San Francisco in November. Way to go Jack!
Laura Dugan has been selected as the 2024 recipient of the American Society of Criminology's Division on Terrorism and Bias Crimes Distinguished Scholar Award. Congratulations, Laura!
- Paola Echave, PhD recipient Class of 2021, has published her latest research report, “Immigration enforcement and COVID-19 death disparities among Latinx people,” which explores the relationship between exposure to immigration enforcement and Latinx people’s health. Immigration enforcement policies can create barriers to health care access and, alongside other factors, may have contributed to adverse health outcomes for Latinx people during the pandemic. With their colleague Dulce Gonzalez, they assessed how exposure to immigration enforcement over time may be related to COVID-19 death disparities for Latinx populations.
