Congrats to our newest Assistant Professors for completing their first years as faculty members!
Chinyere Agbai began her role an Assistant Professor & Provost's Early Career Scholar of Sociology at Ohio State this past Fall after spending the past year as a Post Doctoral Fellow here. Chinyere’s research is concerned with the linkages between urban inequality, the racial wealth gap, public policy, the welfare state, structural racism, and the social determinants of health. Her dissertation explores the historical roots of the contemporary racial wealth gap through the lens of one of the largest housing policies in American history: the GI Bill of 1944.
Brandon Alston joined our faculty in Autumn of 2023 after completing his Ph.D. at Northwestern University. His research uses qualitative methods to examine how surveillance systems operate across poor neighborhoods, prisons, and parole programs. Brandon's research has received awards from national professional organizations including the American Sociological Association, the American Society of Criminology, and the Society for the Study of Social Problems. Brandon jumped right into teaching our Law & Society courses in AU 23 and SP 24.
Fangqi Wen became an Assistant Professor of Sociology here in Autumn 2023 as well. Prior to joining our faculty, she was an assistant professor at the Australian National University. She completed her Ph.D. in Sociology from New York University in 2019. Fangqi's research involves several interrelated lines of research. She examines the relationships among social institutions, demography, and gender inequality. She studies social stratification and mobility in historical settings. She also investigates the discrepancies between social reality and people's perceptions. Fangqi taught our Research Methods and Gender and Society courses for undergraduate students.
