Congratulations to Chris Browning for being awarded the University's Distinguished Scholar Award! We got to surprise Chris with the award and a visit from Dean King and Dean Horn at the faculty meeting after the spring awards luncheon. Sarah Hayford was cited in an article by The New York Times, discussing the decline in birth rates as it relates to rising cost of living. The article primarily referenced Sarah's, coauthored with Karen Guzzo, journal article "Evolving Fertility Goals and Behaviors in Current U.S. Childbearing Cohorts."
New research published in the Sociology of Sport Journal on religiosity, gender, and sports gambling, by Laura Upenieks (Baylor) and Chris Knoester, was written about by OSU News. Knoester was also featured in a Time magazine story on changes in youth sports. His undergraduate research mentee, Neil Sampath (Biology), was awarded a $4.5k Undergraduate Research Scholarship to further develop his undergraduate research thesis, on serious head injuries in youth sports, and push it towards publication.
- Tiffany Huang and Mehr Mumtaz (along with coauthor Van Tran from CUNY Graduate Center) have published an article in Ethnic and Racial Studies, analyzing what kind of research about Asians gets published, and by whom.
