  • Former department member Dr. Lauren Valentino and current graduate student Eva Warren had their paper entitled “Cultural Heterogeneity in Americans’ Definitions of Racism, Sexism, and Classism: Results from a Mixed-Methods Study” accepted for publication in the American Journal of Sociology.
  • Dr. Korie Little Edwards was recently quoted in an article by WOSU discussing Ohio's religious roots. "Many of these denominations emerged because the people in them, black people in them, were not accepted by the largely white-controlled denominations. And so they were either intentionally oppressed and excluded, or they ultimately left because they could not worship, freely and equally in those spaces,” said Edwards.
  • Dr. Hinton was selected by his Alma Mater Wingate University as the recipient of the 2024 Wingate University Alumni Excellence in Service Award that is selected by University leadership and the Alumni Advisory Board Awards Committee. The recipient of this accolade consistently upholds the University's value of service. The recipient of this award has a history of giving back to the campus community and the greater community, showing a knowledge of the value of serving others and is seen as a civic leader who is unwavering in his or her dedication to helping others by his or her colleagues. Dr. Hinton will be awarded at the Alumni & Sports Hall of Fame Awards Ceremony on Friday, October 25th on campus. • We're excited to announce that the department’s intramural soccer team “Sociology + More” secured an impressive 9-0 victory in last Monday’s match! The team, led by captain Jack Wippell, includes Jacob Kepes, Alex Kempler, and Kylee Montgomery. The team is still accepting new players, and participants are welcome to join for individual matches without committing to the entire season. Graduate students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to join the fun! For those interested in supporting the team, the next game will be held at 8:00 PM on Monday, September 23 at the Coffey Road Sports Center. Come cheer us on!
