Graduate School
"Overall, I have found graduate school to be both challenging and rewarding. The expectations for analytic thought and autonomous production are much higher than in undergrad, and courses tend to be rigorous yet stimulating. Outsides of class, the research opportunities to work with top scholars within my specialty areas have allowed me to develop practical experience with social research and the publishing process as well as hone my own research agenda. In addition to developing long lasting personal and professional relationships with graduate school colleagues and faculty, I have found the most rewarding aspect of these past few years to be teaching. Working with undergraduates has helped me grow as a teacher and a sociologist while bolstering my desire to make a career as a professor. While the decision to enter a graduate program should be made with much forethought and attention to one’s long-term career goals, for me the positive aspects, including the great preparation for my chosen profession, have far outweighed the long hours in front of the computer and the modest paycheck."
