How to Declare a Sociology or Criminology Major
Attend an Orientation
Orientations are mandatory. Prior to attending orientation, please take some time to surf our website to familiarize yourself with our program, staff and resources.
In addition to ensuring that you have met an advisor in our department, orientations are your ticket to information. You will:
- be introduced to the departmental advising staff;
- learn when, why and how to see us;
- find out how to correctly complete the major;
- find out about all of the resources available to you in our department;
- learn how to think outside the box in regards to what your future holds for you;
- find out why it is important to put together a complete portfolio while you are at Ohio State to ensure that you are on track to meet your educational and career goals;
- learn how to make the most of your time at Ohio State.
**A note for Transfer students** Students transferring to Ohio State from another institution enter as undeclared. Criminology or Sociology are listed as an Area of Interest, but not officially declared.
