Council of Graduate Students (CGS) Representative (Non-SGSA Position): Jamie Lynch
Holding all members of the Executive responsible to their duties in order to ensure the duties of the Executive are sufficiently met and adhere to the general principles of the organization and this constitution; Run general and Executive meetings or appoint an Executive member to serve in their absence.
Along with the other executives:
- Organize general meetings of twice a quarter
- Attend Executive meetings as necessary
- Inform all members of current SGSA activities and meeting minutes
- Appoint an advisor, as defined in Article VII of this constitution
- Provide accountability of Representatives to ensure the success of SGSA
- Create and disband non-departmental, non-standing committees as outlined in Article X, Section III; Meet with the SGSA advisor on a regular basis as needed
- Meet with the Chair of the Department and Director of Graduate Studies after each SGSA meeting or as necessary
Responsibility for the accounting and disbursement of all monies; Assist in the fulfillment of all Executive duties.

Responsibility for maintaining and distributing meeting agendas and minutes to the Computer Lab Committee Representative, as well as any necessary notification of issues; Assist in the fulfillment of all Executive duties.

Representing the interests of their respective cohort; Reporting SGSA business to their respective cohort; Submitting reports to the Executive on the status of their respective cohort at every SGSA meeting; Must serve on one of the following committees: Elections, Social, Graduate Student Office, Institutional Memory, Community Service.
The elections committee is a group of individuals who administer the SGSA elections for the following year. Individuals on this committee must refuse nominations to be President or VP the year they are counting votes. After the election, this committee is responsible for e-mailing those who were voted into the positions and matching graduate student representatives with their faculty committee counterparts.
These individuals organize social events for graduate students and the department including, but not limited to, the annual SGSA Spring Party. This includes organizing the event such as finding a location, arranging for music, procuring food, etc.
The Graduate Student Office Committee ensures that graduate space is available and accommodating. They create and maintain signage to ensure ease of accessibility for undergraduate students. They also meet to discuss ways in which we can improve graduate student offices as a working space. This committee is responsible for keeping office materials stocked, scheduling paper shredding on an as-needed basis, and maintaining consistent communication with the main office concerning maintenance issues.
This committee is responsible for documenting the business of SGSA throughout the year in order to provide future cohorts with a history of our organization. As needed, members are responsible for obtaining, documenting and summarizing information from each committee chair and the executive board. The chair is responsible for updating content on the SGSA website - including, but not limited to, obtaining meeting agendas from the executive, posting the agenda prior to meetings, obtaining meeting minutes, and posting meeting minutes after each meeting.
The individual elected to the graduate placement committee works with a faculty member to organize information concerning hiring of graduate students. This information is subsequently given to the graduate student body. This individual must be ABD by the first day of Autumn Quarter.
The individual elected to the graduate studies committee represents the graduate students at the graduate studies meetings. S/he is required to meet with the graduate studies committee which is headed by the Director of Graduate Studies. This individual must report back to SGSA what is occurring in that committee. This individual must be ABD by the first day of Autumn Quarter.
The individual elected to the affirmative action committee represents the graduate students at the affirmative action meetings. S/he is required to meet with the affirmative action committee and must report back to SGSA what is occurring in that committee.
The individual elected to the computer lab committee meets with the departmental committee regarding computers, technology, etc. The committee ensures that there are no computer lab issues for graduate students and discuss improvements to technology in the department.
The individual elected to the Spring Awards luncheon committee works with faculty members to organize the spring awards luncheon.
This committee works directly with the departmental Teaching Committee composed of faculty members. This committee helps to create programs to enhance teaching, discusses ways in which teaching could improve within the department and deals with issues that arise concerning teaching. The committee chairperson heads this endeavor.

The faculty recruitment committee meets with a faculty member during the fall to assist in the hiring of new junior faculty. They read vitas, letters of intent, etc. to help the faculty develop a short list of candidates to be interviewed. These students must have an MA by the first day of Autumn quarter.
The individual elected to the Form/Huber Colloquium (formerly Brown Bag) Committee works with faculty members to recrute presenters to speak in the series. Further, she or he will help advertise speakers and will encourage graduate student participation both as presenters and attendees.
Represents sociology graduate students in GESO's mission to obtain legal recognition for graduate students as university employees. Regularly attends GESO meetings and gives updates to SGSA on GESO's progress. For more information on GESO's mission go to http://www.osu-geso.org/
The CGS representative is a university-wide position rather than SGSA specific. Therefore, an individual can hold a CGS position and a SGSA position simultaneously. Representatives on the Council of Graduate Students vote on policy regarding graduate students at the university level and represent all Sociology graduate students in doing so.
