About

I am a PhD student in Sociology at The Ohio State University. I was raised in Kansas, but am a Texan by choice. Besides my time in awesome Austin, TX, I spent many summers in the beautiful Sangre de Cristo mountains of New Mexico. I highly recommend visiting my favorite area. In my spare time, I enjoy working out, playing racquetball, and exploring Columbus.

My favorite hobby is to read fiction. I particularly enjoy reading all of an author's books. I have accomplished this feat with Hermann Hesse, Albert Camus, Cormac McCarthy, and Michael Crichton.

Current Work

I am entering my 6th year of graduate school and am currently on the job market. My dissertation is titled "Immigrant Integration: Context of Reception, Forms of Capital, and Adult Wealth Attainment". I use two datasets - the New Immigrant Survey and the Survey of Income and Program Participation - and quantile regression techniques to explore my research questions.

I am also working on several projects that examine cohabitation and marital wealth accumulation. This work has been presented at the past two PAA meetings (New Orleans and Detroit).

I continue to work closely with my advisor, Professor Zhenchao Qian and I have begun a new project with Professor Pam Paxton that explores social capital in 99 small Iowa towns.
